Roller Blinds in Scarborough by Yorkshire Blinds
Window blinds are fairly ancient inventions. The Persians hung wet cloth on their windows to protect them from desert dust and to make indoor temperatures more bearable. The ancient Chinese fashioned bamboo slats to give them a screen of privacy. The Venetians, who traded with the inhabitants of the Middle East, borrowed this concept from the Persians and brought the invention to Paris because they needed to have a source of income by peddling their wares.
Modern blinds, including Roller Blinds for windows resurfaced in the late 18th century, and the evolution of newer and stronger materials and production technology since then have made them as equally popular as their ancient cloth counterparts. The primary functions of window blinds – to provide a screen from external prying eyes, regulate external light, and lock in warmth – still hold true today as they did in the past.
Roller Blinds have become an essential household accessory, not only because the more modern home owner’s needs have remained unchanged, but also because of improvements in technology that have made window blinds of today equally decorative and functional. Well chosen blinds for windows add a focal splash of colour to, perhaps, a bland living space, while doing the job that was intended.
Blinds for windows in Scarborough can easily be categorised into Roman, Venetian, vertical (often called louvre), roller and panel. While they appear to be interchangeable, they are actually designed so that each window blind is best applied to certain window styles.
Roman Blinds Scarborough, for example, are made of fabric so that they fold up when raised. A one-piece area of material is mounted with slats on the back so the blind stacks neatly into horizontal pleats when pulled up by a chain or cord. This results in better insulation during cold months when lowered all the way down, lying flat as a single panel of fabric.
Roller Blinds Scarborough are also made of solid piece of fabric or other material that easily rolls up by means of chain or pre-loaded spring. There are no slats that provide the backbone of the blind, so that the material itself neatly wraps up around a lightweight, aluminium cylinder when the blinds are raised.
Venetian Blinds Scarborough are horizontal slats without the fabric. The slats are either made of wood, vinyl, or aluminium, and stack neatly together when raised. Venetian blinds allow light to pass through when the slats are rotated to open top to bottom. The slats can be set at an angle so as to regulate the amount of light entering the room.
Vertical Blinds Scarborough, also known as louvre blinds, are similar in principle to Venetian blinds except that the slats are, as the name suggests, hanging vertically, that is, top to bottom. While there are thin strips of vertical slats for smaller windows, vertical blinds are ideal for bigger windows or sliding doors. Buildings with expansive glass walls use vertical blinds to create an anti-glare screen when necessary while allowing as much light to the inside as possible.
Panel blinds function in the same way as vertical blinds in that they screen large openings or windows. The difference is that panel blinds are mounted on a track system that glides to the left or right. A piece of fabric or other material built into the panel provides the screen. As such, they also function as temporary dividers for large spaces
Of the many varieties of window blinds that are available to the home owner, even the most discriminating shopper is sure to find the ones suited to his or her taste.

The first decision is usually the curtain fabric, the beauty of getting made to measure curtains is that you can choose just about any fabric. We have a wonderful range of drape fabrics including floral, silk, tartan, plain linen and a wonderful selection of children’s fabric.
Eyelet Curtains — These are popular for a more contemporary look with the choice of eyelet colour to suit your room. These can only be used on a pole and do not suit the Pelmet. They are perfect for people who wish to have their curtains to fold back firmly without spilling onto the window.
Hand double or triple pleat Drapes — These both create a lovely formal look, their hand finished style creates a very neat appearance and would suit either a pole or monitor.
Inverted Pleat Curtains — The Inverted pleat is designed for people who require a toned finish to their curtains; it gives a more contemporary look than the double or three-way pleat and is better suited to heavier fabrics. The Inverted pleat should be utilized on a pole.
Pencil Pleat Curtains — This is a good everyday style, it is a strapping heading which means they are good value as the makeup cost is less than others. Pencil pleat does look great with a pelmet if you wish to add something extra to finish your windowpane. Can be used on a Track or Pole.
Simple Gather Curtains — These have the relaxed and soft look and we always allow a one inch stand up with this design. A simple gather can be used on a track or pole and works well with materials from our English Country Linens.
Adding trimmings and comparison binding can add style and colour to your curtains. We would normally allow 2” for a contrast binding and this can run around all edges, the leading side and bottom or simply the leading edge. Alternatively you may want to use a pretty fringe, enthusiast edging or braid to finish off your curtains. Fringe or fan edging within the leading edge works particularly well if you are having a fixed curtain with a drape stagnated by a matching tieback or holdback.
Tie backs are used for two reasons; a few may use them as a practical tool to hold the curtain back off the windowpane, others may simply want them as a finishing touch to their window therapy. Whilst many people have tiebacks made in a matching fabric, you can also have rope tiebacks and these may pick out a feature colour within your room or match in. String tie backs normally feature tassels and sometime crystals so can be used to put in a little glamour to your room. Another alternative is a fixed tieback, these are with regard to drapes over a bed, or fixed curtains, but also give a very smart complete. Of course many people find they don’t have a need for tie backs and the curtains can simply suspend in place.Sliding Door Blinds Ideas

How to Hang Sliding Glass Door Blinds
- The first thing you need to do when installing outside-mount vertical sliding glass door blinds is to take the accurate measurement of the track and the length of the blinds.
- Decide where you want the blinds to fall.
- Hold the blinds up at the area where you want to hang it.
- Mark the ends then add a few inches for the track.
- Create a guideline that will tell you the exact spot for the track brackets. Do not forget to give enough room for the sliding door to close and open. If you are using a two-bracket tracking system, you should hang the brackets about 4 inches from both sides of the track.
- Drill holes for the wall anchors and the screws. You will need two screws for each bracket to make sure that the tracker is attached securely. Sliding glass door blinds have carriers that look like small clips where the blinds are inserted. When installing the sliding glass door blinds, these clips should align and face the same direction.
- Before hanging the blinds, make sure to test the carriers by turning the wand. Some manufacturers use a chain to control the blind direction. If your blinds have this, you only need to pull on them to change the blind’s direction.
- Once you are sure that the controls are working and that your carriers are align, you can now insert the blinds by sliding them into the carrier. You will hear a small click once the blinds are properly in place. Make sure that all blinds are facing the right direction.
Sliding glass door blinds should be properly packaged with all the components intact. When unpacking, make sure to check carefully for all the parts. It is highly likely that a missing component will hinder the successful installation of the blinds.sliding doors blinds ideas

What Are Back Tab Curtains?Onzeg/iStock/Getty Images
Tab tops make hanging curtains on a regular or decorative rod easy. The tabs are finished, flat tubes of fabric sewn as a series of evenly spaced strips to the top edge of the curtain panel, with each strip creating a loop. Typically about 2 inches wide, the fabric strips match or harmonize with the curtain fabric. Both strip ends are either stitched to the curtain top to make a loop, one end of the strip is folded to the front and secured with a decorative fastener, or both strip ends are sewn to the back of the curtain panel -- the method used to make back tab curtains. On back tab curtains, the fabric tabs are not visible from the front of the panel.
